Knife Award 2021
The Deutsches Klingenmuseum (German Blades Museum) in Solingen has a Knife Award which is presented every year for an outstanding, hand-made knife, according to a predetermined motto. The award is endowed with € 2000 by the ‘Stiftung Freunde des Deutschen Klingenmuseums’. Participation is open to everyone. The motto for 2021 is: dagger.
The Knife Award was scheduled to be presented on May 16, on the occasion of the ‘Knife Day’ – an open meeting for all friends of the blade. Due to Covid, Knife Day was cancelled, and therefore the museum decided to postpone the Knife Award ceremony to 13 November of this year. The good news (depending on how you look at it) is that the deadline for the competition has been prolonged as well. All interested knife makers are invited to hand in their entries before 30 October.
Rules and regulations
The dagger has to be handmade and (at least) double-edged, the blade length must not exceed 25 cm. Entries will be judged according to their craftsmanship, design, creativity, and handling.
Participation is open to everyone, without further preconditions.
All entries will be exhibited at the Deutsches Klingenmuseum from 2 to 13 November 2021, and afterwards sent back to the makers. The winner will be announced at the Klingenmuseum on 13 November 2021. The winning dagger will be exhibited until 15 May 2022, and will be sent back to the maker afterwards. For more information see: www.klingenmuseum.de.
Those who wish to participate can send their dagger to:
